This small sketchbook has allowed me to explore as well as express my ability and attempts towards fabric manipulation, sewing, dying, and cutting into paper. Although I'm somewhat pleased with the progression of this sketchbook so far, I still would like to grasp and pick up more techniques to fulfill the book.
Here's the back of the fabric smocking which I loved more than the front. Compared to the front, the colour seems to be far more prominent and the texture is insane! The combination of the red and blue are also expressed more on the back. Therefore, I decided to just attach the fabric to the rings of the sketchbook for the option of having to look at both sides.
With the front, I don't think the fabric was left in the dye long enough. The dye failed to coat the gaps within the surface of the front so I should have given it more time.
Other than that, I'm super pleased with this piece of fabric!

A shot of the front.

Sewing into the paper produced great texture and a pretty design. The hanging bits of thread add an organic, textural and loose feature to the book.

My next step and approach to this book is to do some research on textile techniques that I'm not already familiar with. I really want to push and expand my knowledge to the limit and experiment as much as I can within this time.
