Protection in Nature - Line Drawings

As a starting point for the first project, protection in nature, I produced a series of line drawings from my own observation. The first drawing depicts the structure of a nest in fine liner, nests are naturally quite chaotic and portraying this meant that I needed to form scruffy and uneven lines. Creating jagged lines to represent the form of the twigs was effective. I successfully demonstrated use of line to particularly focus on the structure of the subject more than anything and I didn't fall into adding tone which was the difficult task for me. In terms of development for this sketch, I suppose I could enlarge on different areas of the nest to capture the various elements of the nest. This could further develop into drawing attention to what is inside the nest, what are the important objects that build the structure of the nest?

The following line drawing illustrates another natural form, only this time in charcoal. Using this medium affected it's appearance and not what I had in mind originally but I have begun to like it in a way. Dragging the charcoal across the page had created quite bold lines and I believe this was due to the scale of the piece. It could have been fit to a much large scale, possibly a whole entire A3 page so that more detail could be incorporated into the piece. Emphasizing the thorns has given the object an interesting form and relates to the project theme very nicely.
